Kiva Pledge Update / Happy International Women’s Day

This last July, I (Gina Clyne Photography), made a pledge to make a Kiva loan to a woman in another country for every wedding that I book.

I have made 30 loans since I made that pledge, and I hope to keep doing so for as long as I am out there shooting weddings. It is extremely important for me to contribute to someone’s chances of making a better life for themselves and their families. People are suffering and struggling everyday, so if you could, why not offer a bit of relief while on the hard path to realizing a goal?

Below are women who I made loans to in the last months. I think it’s important to give faces to the effort, as it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed by the volume of people who need a boost to create opportunity.

What is Kiva?

“We are a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend to help create opportunity around the world.” – kiva.org

As of today, donations have been made to women in Bolivia, Cambodia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, India, Kenya, Philippines, Tajikistan, and Zimbabwe.

The beauty of all of this is that you can donate too, whenever you please! You can sign up for your own Kiva account and if you make a donation today for International Women’s Day, your loan will be matched, doubling the impact of your loan to another woman and her business.
